Sleepers are my favorite type of build, and this 1968 Chevy Nova four door, aka Sweet Pea, is a good one. It's crusty, it appears to have been built on a budget and it really rips! Ray Gardocki built this car a couple years ago, and has upgraded to its current configuration, which is a 6.0 liter LS engine, fed by a single Borg Warner turbo and backed by a Powerglide transmission. I love the fact that it has air conditioning and stock style interior! On this pass at Beech Bend Raceway (during the 2018 Holley LS Fest event), the car runs bottom 9's (9.107 at 145mph) with plenty more left in it. Church Boys Racing built 64 Nova owned by AZN from StreetOutlaws goes 10.61 at 124mph. Front suspension is the CBR modular front end with Viking dbl. adjustable shocks, the rear suspension is the CBR triangulated 4-link. Maloof Racing out of Southern California built the naturally aspirated small block Chevy. With a few more adjustments we will be ready to make a hit with the Abruzzi Racing built th400 engaging the trans brake. After that it will be a hit with the NX system armed!!!
You don’t want to sleep on this Nova on the track or on the street because this is one Ironed out machine! Aiming for an 8 second average through Rocky Mountain Race Week presented by RPM Magazine, this Nova made the challenging 1300 mile trek from the flatlands to the mounts, and back without only couple issue! This car is still pretty mild at the moment, but it does have a cammed 350, a Super T-10 four speed, and a 9" Ford rear. He's keeping the stock "Granny Car" appearance, but trying to decide how much more to do with the performance, Right now, it's a great running car, that you could drive every day if you wanted. This is an introduction to the Lone Wolf Hot Rods' current street sleeper project car a 1970 Chevrolet Nova. It's your typical "granny-mobile" with pretty much zero optional equipment. The biggest redeeming quality is the fact it has just over 13,000 original miles (yes, they are still out there!). In this video, the car has a snoring inline six with a three on the tree. That will all change! The idea here is to build a nondescript Sleeper - one with ahem..."adequate power" under the hood! It will look close to the same as it does now, but under the skin there will be some very healthy changes. Subscribe (for Free!!!) to the Lone Wolf Hot Rods YouTube channel and you can watch this thing morph. Purchased in '77 when he was 16 years old, Dennis Taylor held on to this classic '72 Nova and resurrected it in '15 to compete in Hot Rod's Dragweek. Powered by a twin turbo 525ci BBC it easily runs 8.50's and look at that 175 mph! The nova has since had more upgrades including a new engine and is now a 7 second street car with all work done by Dennis, who owns and operates Hot Rods by Dennis Taylor in Booneville, Arkansas. #retronova #sleeper #dragweek
